I Knew My Life Would Never Be The Same Again

It was early May, and it was the same as most days. I was sitting at my shop, sorting out the anime videos that had been returned the night before. Nothing new was going on; the regular customers hadn't shown themselves in days. Boredom set in again, the same old happenings, the same old events.

The door opened and a new customer walked in. I don't usually take too much notice to new customers, as most are from out of town and rarely ever stop in on a regular basis. However, she had taken me back. She was very beautiful. Her eyes were like crystals, and her crimson hair flowed like burning flames of the same color.

She asked if I had any Inu Yasha videos for rent. Regretfully, I informed her that I did not have any in stock, but that if she would give me a month I could have at least five discs ready for rent. She seemed down at the news of the wait. I suggested a series called Ranma 1/2 (One Half). It was created by the same person who made the Inu Yasha series, and that she would get a kick out of it. After a minute of explaining the series to her, she rented them and was off.

A few days went by and I didn't really think of her, going about my business as usual. She came back in and rented the next five to ten videos, she loved the series. Perfect. A series she could watch while she waited for my slow butt to get the videos in. We talked a little more about different anime programs on Cartoon Network, ones she liked, ones I liked, and ones each of us had never heard of.

Weeks went by and we talked each time she entered my store. It was the high point of most of my days. The videos finally arrived and she rented all of them over the course of that week. Then one day I popped the question. "Would you be interested in seeing Chronicles of Riddic this weekend?" Without hesitation she said "Yes", we talked for a little longer, and she was off with the other videos.

I was happy that she accepted. I never really had the best of self-esteems, and her acceptance see a movie was like a booster shot in what at that point in my life had been a never ending conveyor-belt of boredom. Though I could not realize it at the time, it was the moment that my life would never be the same.
